JELL, George (1863-1947)

Born in 1863 in Young, New South Wales. Eldest son of George Jell and Jane McGlynn.

In 1887 George married Mary Ann Fletcher, whose father was working at View Hill Tarrawarra. Mary Ann died in 1897, three years after the birth of her third child. George re-married in 1905 to Rose Smith but sadly she died in 1907 after having two daughters. George Jell married a third time to Myrtle McLaren in 1910 and they had four children. There were nine children in the family, the two youngest being born after the commencement of the War. The youngest, Ivy, was born in 1917 only a month before her brother Jack was killed in Belgium.

George was employed by the MMBW and in 1907 lost one of his eyes after being struck in the eye by a chip of wood while he was building a fence.
