SMITH, Evelyn Isabelle (nee McGregor) (1920-2000)
Ev McGregor spent her early years on the McGregor family's dairy farm at Mernda. She married Samuel Smith (1920-1995) in August 1945. In 1947 they purchased a farm on Pinnacle Lane, Steels Creek where they lived for five years with their three sons, Ted, Lawrie and Robin. After a few years of hard work for little return Sam obtained work at the timber mill in Yarra Glen and the family sold the farm and moved to Symons Street. Ev was involved in many community organisations including the Red Cross and CWA, the Uniting Church, the Yarra Glen Agricultural & Horticultural Society, the Cubs and the Yarra Glen & District Historical Society. She was a teaching assistant at Dixons Creek School for many years and in 1970 was appointed a Justice of the Peace.
