About The Yarra glen & District Historical Society

The Society was established in 1973. Our logo is a drawing by Gane Ahern of the Victoria Hall which stood at the southern entrance to the town from 1893 until its demolition in 1940. It was the venue for many community gatherings, celebrations and farewells.

The Society is located in the Yarra Glen Memorial Hall. Visitors to our History Room are welcome on Wednesday afternoons or by appointment. We hold a general meeting on the 2nd Sunday of each month (except when it clashes with Mothers Day and Easter Sunday in which case we move to the 3rd Sunday). We often have a guest speaker, and in the second half of the year, an excursion to a place of historic interest is organised.

The annual Tetlow Talk follows our general meeting on the second Sunday in October. This talk commemorates the late Eric Tetlow (1930-2009) our esteemed Secretary/Treasurer and renowned researcher. A guest speaker with expertise in a topic of regional interest is invited to present the Talk and a special afternoon tea that honours Eric's favourite treats is provided.
