BELL STREET, Yarra Glen

Bell Street commences at the Vasey Houghton Bridge and ends at the junction of Armstrong Grove and Irvine Crescent. It currently forms a part of the Melba Highway. The section from the corner of King Street to Anzac Avenue is often locally referred to as the Main Street. Bell street is named after the Bell family of Gulf Station who rented land from John Dickson in 1851. By 1856 the Bell and Armstrong families had taken over Dicksons pastoral lease. William and Mary Ann Bell and their family owned Gulf Station for the next 100 years. Descendants still live in the district.
